The Historic Inns of Rockland, Maine celebrate National Pie Day on January 20, 2008 with the third annual Pies on ParadeTM Inn-to-Inn Pie Tour. This historic inn tour is an opportunity to sample sweet and savory pies from Rockland’s historic country inns, while gathering tips on pie making from expert piemakers/innkeepers. There are plenty of other indoor activities to fill your day, too. Visit the Farnsworth Art Museum and the Wyeth Center, or stroll through some of Rockland’s exceptional galleries. For those who enjoy the outdoors in winter, there are many winter sports such as skiing, tobogganing, tubing, fishing and skating all nearby. Best of all, enjoy a quiet dinner at one of our renowned restaurants.

In Maine, the beginning of spring is affectionately referred to as “mud season”. Ironically, the second week of March is known as National Chocolate Week. Join The Historic Inns of Rockland with their own March Madness celebration consisting of an inn to inn Chocolate MarchTM to commemorate this special “mud season”.

Later in the month, why not come and chill out at one of our historic bed and breakfasts even if winter hasn’t thawed out? Bring a book, relax by a fireplace, take a long needed nap, drink a glass of wine, or bring your friends to play cards. What a great time to escape to the Penobscot Bay region for an antiquing weekend. Midcoast Maine is filled with shops that are loaded with inventory at great prices, and the local auction houses in nearby Thomaston and Northport are in full swing. This is a good time of year to find that special piece you’ve been looking for and a dealer who is willing to bargain! If antiquing is not your cup of tea, you can take in a movie, or visit Rockland’s galleries and museums, or dine in one of our fine restaurants.

Spring is in the air, and thoughts turn to that special woman in your life. Why not reward that special “Mom” in your life with a weekend of pampering at one of our luxurious inns? Later in the month, Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial start of summer. In Rockland, the harbor is already in full swing. The boats are cleaned and polished. Main Street is closed to traffic, so visitors can enjoy live music, entertainment, street dancing, food and special events.

During the second week of July, Rockland is filled with music lovers coming to participate in the North Atlantic Blues Festival. Rockland’s Festival of Lights Celebration is the perfect answer. This weekend long event over Thanksgiving gets the holiday season underway in Rockland . Santa arrives on a US Coast Guard boat.
